Never going back to a conventional combustion engine

I made the leap to 100% electric and haven't regretted it for even a minute. I've had no issues whatsoever with the Ioniq and thoroughly enjoy driving it every day.

Bare necessities

With the rare occasion of something in the electrical system going wrong, I enjoy everything about the car. A larger reservoir for the windshield fluid is something to be desired but overall, I enjoy using the car. The battery range serves me well, only needing to charge once every two weeks with steady use.

Great until it wasn't

Stopped L2 charging after 2 years. It's been at the dealer 2 weeks now with no update. I brought it in for all the recalls too. Before that issue, I loved it. Disappointing.

Fun vehicle to drive - great for everyday driving

Being an electric vehicle this car is fun to drive. Feel very safe driving with the instant acceleration it offers. For everyday driving it's excellent but have not taken it for any distance trips due to range anxiety. Other than that, excellect.

Pretty good but a number of issues

Overall, I am not sure how this won SUV of the year. We've had a number of issues with the 12V battery system that Hyundai says they cannot find anything wrong, but the car is randomly just dead sometimes (because it draws down all the power of the 12v system). Additionally, we have had lower efficiency than advertised, and we always drive in eco mode. And lastly, the interior is just low quality and is damaged very easily. A number of the interior surfaces seem like paper.

Pragmatic ??s - is ownership still the best way when technology changes so rapidly? - resale value is a crap shoot but lease offers on new EVs unlikely in current unstable US market - reliability only did not get a higher score because one repair took a long time and two extended free loaners. Great work by the dealer rep - we’ll be customers for any new product at that dealership!

Great car

I've had my Ionic 5 for 2 years and have had no issues. I mostly drive within 20 miles of my house, but have taken it on a couple of 500+ mile round trip with it and I had no issue finding level 3 chargers to quickly charge and keep going.

Great car, but dragged down by Hyundai decisions

Great vehicle in general, but Hyundai does not treat owners well in terms of software. New features and fixes are made with later model years that are not shared with existing owners, even those who pay for Bluelink. For example, Hyundai Pay for charging; GPS routing improvements; and wireless Apple CarPlay. Other minor complaints: (a) it's tacky not to include a luggage cover in a wagon-like car - this should not be an extra; (b) the control lever for the lights rotates too easily, leading to accidentally shutting off headlights at night (I fixed this with a tight O-ring); and (c) when car turns off, or goes into R or P, it should not reset to regen level 3, but rather should keep the driver's last setting.
