Safety features that create safety concerns and other inconveniences
I have owned my 2024 Hyundai Sonata for almost two years and purchased it new. While the engine itself has not given me issues and I have not seen warning lights, the overall experience has been extremely disappointing and, at times, unsafe.
The most alarming issue occurred when the automatic emergency braking system suddenly slammed on the brakes while I was in the middle of an intersection. There was no obstacle that warranted this, and I was very close to being involved in a serious accident if I had not reacted quickly. A safety feature that creates danger instead of preventing it is unacceptable.
There is also a constant rattling noise on the passenger side inside the vehicle. It is not the glove compartment and has been present for a long time. For a car at this price point, the ride should be smooth and quiet, yet this noise makes driving frustrating and unpleasant.
The driver side window and lock controls are unreliable and frequently stop working. If my windows are down and I need to roll them up or lock the car, sometimes I simply cannot. The issue comes and goes and often coincides with problems using the remote.
The key detection system is another major concern. When I enter the car and attempt to lock the doors, the vehicle will automatically unlock itself because it does not detect the key quickly enough. This creates a serious safety issue. In a situation where personal safety matters, I cannot trust the vehicle to remain locked.
Additionally, the Hyundai app has recently become unreliable, preventing me from starting or controlling my vehicle remotely. In colder weather around 40 degrees Fahrenheit, I am forced to physically go to my car just to start it. The key fob range is extremely limited, and when attempting to start the car from farther away, the vehicle will flash the lights as if it has started when it has not, leading to confusion and unnecessary frustration.
This is especially disappointing because I previously owned a vehicle that cost about half as much and offered the same features without these problems. For the price paid, I expected reliability, safety, and consistent functionality.
Due to the safety related concerns described above, I would appreciate a direct response from Hyundai acknowledging these issues and explaining how they can be addressed. At this time, I cannot recommend this vehicle to anyone seeking a dependable or safe driving experience.
