Getting better but still needs improvements
Ground Clearance
I have a 2025 XRT, and the ground clearance is insufficient in most situations. I’m not sure how the other trims function properly, considering the XRT supposedly has more ground clearance than the other models. In many cases, curbs are higher than the front end. This model is marketed as off-road capable, but in reality, it is not.
It's also frustrating that Hyundai does not offer a leveling kit or lift kit for the 2024–2025 Santa Fe. I inquired about this issue directly with Hyundai and the dealership. Hyundai informed me that if a kit is not installed by a certified Hyundai mechanic, it could void certain aspects of the warranty—particularly components related to the suspension. The dealership stated that even the installation of the kit alone could potentially void those same parts of the warranty.
With the purchase of an extended warranty through Hyundai, I cannot gain the additional ground clearance I want and need without risking voiding parts of the warranty. I truly want to increase the ground clearance. I saw photos of the 2024 Concept XRT and fell in love with the design, but that build cannot be replicated through Hyundai at this time. The accessories shown are not produced or sold, and you also cannot fit larger all-terrain tires on this frame.
Adaptive Cruise Control
The adaptive cruise control is a great feature in theory but has some major flaws that can be unsafe. When the system is engaged at highway speeds and a vehicle merges into your lane legally, the system detects the vehicle in front and slows down significantly. This has nearly caused rear-end collisions on several occasions.
Additionally, when traveling at highway speeds and approaching a sweeping curve, the cameras may fail to detect the road properly and interpret it as a hazard, causing the vehicle to slow down sharply—even if there are no other vehicles nearby. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way to fully disable the adaptive feature and use standard cruise control instead.
The lane assist system also needs improvement. When engaged, the car often bounces back and forth within the lane, giving the appearance that the driver may be intoxicated or distracted. This can be concerning to other drivers on the road.
Driver Monitoring Camera
This feature is overly sensitive. For example, if I take a sip from my drink, the system will alert me that the camera is obstructed and may slow the vehicle with no warning—a definite safety concern.
The system should be adjustable to account for different driving styles. If your hand is in the 12 o’clock position on the steering wheel, the camera can become blocked. To my knowledge, there is no way to disable this feature. I’d simply like to enjoy my water or any other beverage without constant alerts or unexpected vehicle behavior.
Paint
The matte paint should come standard with a full-body paint protection film (PPF). While the vehicle may look slightly better without it, the added protection would save many owners from costly paint damage and maintenance issues.
Miscellaneous
There should be a way to enclose the underside of the center console. This space could serve as a secure, hidden storage compartment—especially valuable if it could be locked or secured when not in use.
Additionally, the crossbars that came with the vehicle sit too high and generate unnecessary wind noise at freeway speeds.
Interior and Features
The interior is very comfortable and includes most of the desired features—except for a heated steering wheel. An off-road-capable vehicle should offer both a heated steering wheel and ventilated seats.
The styling of the vehicle is amazing. I love the design, especially with the Earthy Brass Matte color I selected.
Final Thoughts
As the title suggests, Hyundai has come a very long way—but there's still room for improvement. I hope the company continues listening to customers who take the time to provide feedback like this.
