Almost the perfect mini truck
I reviewed my Santa Cruz a few weeks after I bought it. I gave it high marks then and I continue to be very happy with my purchase 2 yrs later. Too many good things to list, here's my favorites. The clearance, the all wheel drive, the seat warmers, the big clear back up camera and easy to read screen, the fabric of the seats, ample headroom, the look of the truck and so many convenient features. The drive is smooth, excelleration is great, gas mileage ok. There are three features I think need improvement....backseat leg room, remote start feature and android auto. Leg room in the back row is lacking compared to other 4 doors with the same kind of interior but it's still better than many small trucks because it has a car feel inside. Android auto has always been sketch for me. Two different phones have been tried, it just won't stay connected. Shame, it's a nice feature. Lastly, and this my biggest pet peeve. Please fix this in future models. The auto stsrt is maddening. First, from the fob or the app, ut only works abt 60% of the time unless I'm standing next to the vehicle. Second and this is key...the fob has to be in the truck in order for it to stay on. That is dangerous. The whole idea of the temote start is to run AC or heat while the driver is doing something outside the vehicle. Once the truck is unlocked or a door opened/closed it shuts off against my wishes within a minute. If the driver starts the dang vehicle, that means I want it to be on until i choose to turn it off!!! Period. I don't like technology overriding my commands. The tracking software is bad enough and should also have a kill switch. Americans like choices, not control.
