IONIQ 6 - 6 months

The drive is efficient and smooth. Almost posh. Interior is comfortable and has a combination of physical and digital controls. Seems to be of solid quality and durability (although, oddly enough, cup holders are prone to scuffing). Only downside is the regular warning to check electrical system. Electrical system has been checked multiple times (with ~20 hours of waiting in the dealership) with no indication of what is triggering the error message. Hence the 4/5 rating overall.

Love my car but there are a few quirks

Love the way it drives. Love the way it looks. Love the lighting on the inside. Interior doors leave much to be desired. Each time it rains when I open the door, it leaves ridiculous streaks all down the side. Seats are great though. My biggest issue with the car is the beeping. It beeps at me constantly to where I often ignore the beeping because it's not telling me anything significant. And, you can only turn off all the beeping, not adjust what you want to receive notifications about. Anytime I pull out of a parking spot (even though there is nobody behind me) it's beeping. Anytime I'm turning left and there are two turn lanes, it's constantly beeping, the stop and take a break coffee cup indicator comes on with one slight move of the steering wheel. It's very frustrating.

Over all excellent except no spare tire

The car has performed as expected. We get excellent mileage per charge. The one major fault is no spare tire. If the tire suffers savvier damage on a longe trip the cost to have car towed and tire replace is unreasonable.

IONIQ 6

The IONIQ 6 is only my second ever vehicle. My first was a 2012 Toyota Corolla, so of course this was an expected step-up from that. In general, I’m pretty pleased with the vehicle. I think it’s a great car, but the reason I am unlikely to recommend it to anyone is that switching to an electric car is a hurdle. There are lots of quirks and intricacies that aren’t immediately noticeable until you’ve had one for a while. It’s not specific to Hyundai of course. However, the IONIQ 6 also has a direct competitor in the Tesla Model 3. The Model 3 is cheaper than the IONIQ 6, and frankly I find it better equipped? You get cameras and all kinds of OS-level features. Hyundai seems a bit clunky in comparison. I’ve had peers purchase Model 3s after I got my IONIQ 6, and to be honest, I’m actually kinda jealous of what their car can do haha. I don’t really regret my purchase, and I still like my car. But I’d like to have more features as well for the money I paid.

Fewer lawyers more engineers

All of the problems I have with the vehicle can be traced back to corporate lawyers and not the people who engineered the car. Things like no support for wireless android auto in the car even though it has all of the necessary hardware and is in fact supported in different markets. The most annoying issue is that if there is ice blocking the sensors the car spends 30 seconds informing me of each and every feature that is disabled, blocking a large portion of the display. This is extreme overkill and I believe makes the car less safe to drive in that it is harder to see what is actually going on in the display panel. It should instead just say "Sensors blocked, related features disabled" instead of listing them one at a time over 30 seconds. It also seems like there could be better anti-icing features to prevent some of that in the first place.

Two year review

Excellent car, no issues at all, comfortable, economical, trouble free. Handling and acceleration are excellent (and probably safety features which thankfully we haven't tested!) This is our first electric car and 90% of our driving is local - 30-50 miles a day. For this it is unmatched: when it gets to 30-40% battery we re-charge to 80% (we have a level 2 charger, so that takes ~3 hours) and ready to go. Comfort and climate control outstanding.

Pretty much what I'd hoped for

I like this car alot. It's smooth, quiet, accelerates well, is well-appointed, and roomy enough for passengers and cargo. The various warning systems are driving me nuts, because they seem to go off at random (or at least not consistent) times, and (I'm sure this is due to my driving habits), the distance I get from fully charged varies more than I'd thought.
