My First EV

1. There is a unique peculiar smell to the car. I'm not sure if it is the materials, but my car does not have the 'traditional' new car smell like that of an ICE vehicle. 2. I'm still learning the vehicle and having fun exploring the EV's capabilities and vehicle diagnostics. 3. I wish the center console slid fore/aft. I'm 6'1" and have the driver's seat pretty far to the back. The center armrest rubs against my right leg when I'm driving. If I could slide it to the rear it would free up some room. 4. I could use more enclosed storage in the center console. 5. It's nearly impossible to reach the glove box from the driver's seat. 6. There is a slight rattle from somewhere in the vicinity of the driver's side pillar/passenger window area. 7. The tires constantly need air to keep them inflated to the recommended 38 PSI. 8. Help me understand the logic why I cannot adjust the regenerative braking level using the paddle switches while the cruise control is set.

Safety features over zealous and too lax at the same time

see above. There’s eyes forward feature is far too strict. I can’t drive with sun glasses AND looking at the radio for a few seconds causes great nagging and even restricts driving choices. At the same time, there is a real safety issue that exists and is unaddressed. Worse, when i emailed the company with my sincere concern, i was completely ignored. When in full ipedal mode, the brake lights don’t come on when the car begins to brake. I was concerned that might be a possibility and tried to figure out on my own if the lights were coming on. I then did a quick internet search and found an excellent YouTube video fully explaining the issue with respect to the Ioniq5. As a retired lawyer, i well understand how Hyundai will argue on favor of a loophole in the federal regulation that you will argue permits this. However, even if true under law, that does nothing whatsoever to answer the moral obligation with respect to the company’s obligation. The company’s failure to substantively address the important safety issue when i personally sent concerns is even worse, in my opinion. What a sham process!

2025 Ioniq 5

I had a charging issue after only 2,500 miles and it took a week to troubleshoot and fix. Dealer did not have a loaner and I was stuck without a car 100 miles from home. You customer care line was horrible. I had to wait 5 days to talk with someone and they could not do anything about the speed of tech support. I am terrified this car will fail again and leave me stranded. I am so glad I am leasing and can't see buying until Hyundai actually fixes the ICCU issues and comes clean with the problems. I honestly don't trust Hyundai and don't think you will survive making EVs.

Great car with a few issues

Have some issues with saving settings and having the vehicle able to switch between users with those settings. Cannot see the temperature control strip and no adjustments are available.

It doesn't auto-lock the doors???

It astounds me that in the year 2025, an electric car can be sold without the most basic security feature: Lock the doors when you walk away. The car KNOWS that the keyfob (or in my case, my iPhone) isn't in the car. It KNOWS the car is off. Why do the handles continue to stick out like little flags indicating that everything inside is free for the taking?

Hello Mark, thank you for sharing your feedback on your vehicle. The standard 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 does not feature a walk-away automatic door lock system. We continuously monitor the feedback of our customers as we develop new models and trims to best match our consumers' preferences. Your feedback will be taken into consideration. ^cc

Cheap quality

Electric ride great but for $60000 car interior materials are cheap, care is rather rudimentary for comfort and door lock functionality is weird

Amazing automobile

This is my first EV and I am very impressed. The range of the vehicle is comparable to any ice car. It charges quickly and it’s so fun to drive with smooth and powerful acceleration. I am concerned with the quality of the electronic components as the body control module needed replacing at less than 2000 miles. The car stopped recognizing the key fobs and only was able to be operated because I had set up digital keys on our smartphones.

Good car however features are wonky

The fact that I can’t save my seat settings is mind boggling, some of the cheapest cars this feature has been available for 10+ years

Fun car to Drive!

This car is very fun to drive, very quiet and smooth ride. I am really liking the plug in to charge rather than going to a gas station.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 review

Good car. Drives well. ICCU issues still persist and I'm hesitant on buying or leasing another one because it's been four years and it's still not resolved. I also caution anyone else thinking about this car or any on the EGMP platform because of the ICCU issues.

The ionic is a great vehicle.

I love this car. A bit more trunk space would be nice. I’d like it if the vehicle automatically locked when you move out of range, a notification of the light turning green would also be great. Tesla automatically starts when you get in and shuts off when you get out. That’s pure luxury!

Favorite Car I've Owned

Over nearly three decades, I've owned about ten cars. This is by far my favorite vehicle. The acceleration and the range on a full charge are fantastic. The interior space is very comfortable, and the bluetooth Android Auto is convenient.

It's better than I thought it would be

I leased the car primarily due to the price, but once I started driving it around and learning about the platform, I starting liking it more and more each day. I know I have to watch out for ICCU issues and the 12 volt battery, but lets hope I don't have a bad vehicle.

Great features, fun to drive, sounds like it's falling apart

I was looking for a commuter vehicle that was fun to drive and full of the tech I like while being heavy on safety features, and this checked all the right boxes. The exterior has a bit of a funky, retro design, which grew on me more and more, and the interior actually looks quite refined compared to other comparable vehicles. The Limited version I opted for had an upgraded sound system and more cameras for a 360 degree view, and it included other comfort features such as ventilated front seats. I love driving this thing and love the look and feel of it. However, per the dealership, Hyundai is ABUNDANTLY AWARE of a manufacturing defect specific to all Ioniq 5's, regardless the model year, that creates rattling noises primarily from the tailgate/hatch. I've taken my vehicle in twice for fixes, which were performed, but the car still sounds like it's going to fall apart whenever I hit a minor bump in the road. This is the only complaint I have about this vehicle, but Hyundai either doesn't care about this or doesn't know how to improve the quality of the build on the production line.
