My 2023 IONIQ5 Limited Bricked at 10,500 Miles with an ICCU Failure. Took 6 Weeks to Get Fixed

I would have given my IONIQ 5 a very good rating. ... until the morning I tried to go somewhere and got the dreaded "Check Electrical Systems" failure. "Low Power Mode"! Car was then bricked. I immediately searched on line to discover what the cause : ICCU Failure. And the fact that this has been happening for two years! And that the replacement ICCU parts are in short supply. Once my car was in the dealership service for a month, with no replacement part in sight, I opened a case with Hyundai to buy back my car. (I live in California with very strict lemon laws.). Low and behold, Hyundai expedited the ICCU and it was fixed about two weeks later, about 6 weeks total. While I am happy to have the car back, I am worried it can happen again! I do not want to drive this car any long distances because of this. My repurchase from Hyundai has been approved and I a waiting for the details. I will certainly take it. If Hyundai has replacement parts available so that my car was fixed in a week, I would feel different. I loved the safety features on the car. But a car that can die anywhere at anytime is not a safe car.

Great EV, But the Ioniq 5 Still Has Room to Improve

I’ve really enjoyed owning the Hyundai Ioniq 5—it’s a standout EV with impressive performance, a comfortable ride, and head-turning design. That said, after living with it for a while, I’ve noticed a few areas where the experience could be more polished, especially when compared to other vehicles in the Hyundai/Kia family. First, dashboard customization feels limited. On my wife’s Kia, for example, we can set a weather background, adding a personal and useful touch. Ioniq 5’s interface is clean but static—more personalization would go a long way. Second, settings like regenerative braking level and heated steering wheel don’t stay persistent. Every time I start the car, I need to reset things, which becomes frustrating over time. These preferences should stick between drives. Third, I’d really appreciate a "Dog Mode"—something simple to keep the cabin at a safe temperature while I quickly run errands, without worrying about workarounds. Another missing convenience is walk-away door locking. It’s a small feature that adds real-world value, and I’m surprised it’s not available by default. Lastly, the media display could use a rethink. The main screen often wastes space while failing to show basic info like artist and song title clearly. For a tech-forward vehicle, that feels like a misstep. In short, the Ioniq 5 is an excellent car, but with just a few software and feature updates, it could be truly exceptional.

Amazing car!

This may be the nicest car I have ever owned. It is comfortable, quiet, quick and everything is conveniently placed in the cabin. It charges quickly and has very good range.

ICCU failure at 318 mi, still waiting for part after 34 days

I wish I were able to drive the car, enjoy the ride, and learn more of all the features. But having a critical failure the prohibited us from recharging the battery and waiting over a month (so far) for a brand new car to be able to drive it is frustrating. I worry now that I can never trust this car, the dealer, or manufacturer.

Fun to drive with some quirks and should go farther on a charge

Overall the car drives really well. But there are some quirks that drive me crazy. For example, the car automatically unlocks when you are ready to drive it but it doesn't auto lock when you are done. The driver attention monitor doesn't work for me when I'm wearing a hat and sunglasses. The wireless charger doesn't really charge. Also, why do we keep putting the charger in a different spot than Tesla? Makes it so hard to charge at their chargers. Otherwise, its super fun and awesome. I really like it. The only REAL thing I have is how far it can go on highways. I probably can go ~180 miles before I need to charge it.

2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is OK

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 is okay but have a few quirks. The mileage is inconsistent and is the full charging number is continuing getting lower and lower. It started at 317-320 miles during the winter, when the spring started the mileage went up to 359 and now in summer the miles have lowered to 292-299 on full. I have also had some incidents of my radio "not being available" which prohibits the radio from playing or being accessed. The seats are not as comfortable as I would prefer. The app says that my next maintenance is next year but I have constantly been getting a message saying my maintenance is due. The automatic feature on my windshield wipers does not work. I also get a message saying I should take a coffee break and I probably only had been driving about 10 minutes. I need to make an appointment for the car to get check out but I have been too busy.

Non functional cruise control , useless customer service.

I do like the car, but cannot recommend it because the cruise control does not work. Hyundai added a FAW (Forward Attention Warning) system to make sure the driver is looking at the road. Unfortunately, as Hyundai outlines in a TSB (25-GI-001H), it doesn't work if you are short, or tall, or wear prescription glasses, or if the sun is in front of you, or behind you. For me, it never, ever works. So that is bad enough. Then I tried working with Hyundai Customer Care which was worse than useless. They told me to do a lot of things that would never have worked. When they finally figured that it was an engineering defect, rather than address the issue, I was laughed at and ridiculed. They kept using the phrase "It works as designed" rather than appreciating my experience "it does not work at all." They offered no fix. Didn't ever talk to engineering. Never once looked at my car (in their defense, they knew it was pointless). I asked to be compensated for the loss of cruise control and a key safety feature, and they said no. After about 8 phone calls, they finally said they would give me $150 as if I'm a kid with a paper route for whom $150 is a lot of money. This is a nearly $40,000 car with no cruise control. The car is OK. but God help you if you ever need to deal with Hyundai Customer Care. They are the worst.

I love driving my Hyundai Ioniq 5…especially happy in this heat to have the remote climate feature. The phone alerts and remote access are also incredibly helpful.

Good car with some small flaws

I very much enjoy this car as my daily driver. I get great range, the ride quality is great, and visibility is pretty good. My primary negatives are that the turning radius is terrible for the size of the car - makes it hard to get in and out of tight parking areas. It may not be a big deal to you, but I live in a city and find it to be a bit of a nuisance on a nearly daily basis. The other primary drawback of the car is that the interior is pretty cheap feeling for how expensive the car is. Lots of hard plastics everywhere.

Love this car-our second Ioniq 5

Happy we stepped up to the Limited trim level, had the SEL trim on our first Ioniq 5. Some tweaks are needed on the following: paint quality inside door jams and edges not as good as our Korean made 1st Ioniq. Digital key works great, but why can't the car identify digital key owner and have driver profile default to that. Driver profile should be able to be changed without having car in park. This is a huge pain! Remote climate start should continue until car is started and not until end when drivers door is closed. Charging with home 110 volt or level two charging, every time car locks or unlocks the car says "charging started". Does the charging end and then begin again? Climate and charging concerns didn't happen with 2022 Ioniq 5. Again a disappointment. Have had once on Electrify America using NACS adapter and another time w/Tesla charger get charging unsuccessful responses. Also one time using 110 volt charger--had to start charging using app to begin the charge. Charging iPhone on wireless charger is slow and overheats. Why no trunk car mat with car mat purchase? Love windshield pop up display, wireless Apple Airplay, moonroof, more range estimate info displayed, plug and charge on Tesla chargers, OTA update actually happening, new bumpers front and back are more stylish. Haven't used battery conditioner, but a big reason for us getting the newer car. Love the Cyber Grey color buy only got it because Gravity Gold wasn't available yet.

This is the future!

My wife was a little skeptical when I bought the Ioniq 5, but then she drove it, and now that’s all she wants to drive. We mostly charge it from our solar system, so the cost of running it is next to nothing. Have done a couple of long trips and found that charging on the road was almost as fast as pumping gas. We would take our dog for quick walk and we were charged and back on the road. Easy to plan charge stop. All good.

Car out of service after 55 days

Car stopped charging less than two-month-old. Not even 3,000 miles driven. No timeline as to when it will be fixed. Customer service at the dealership was terrible. No returned calls and no follow up. Hyundai America is not much better. Still waiting to hear when the part will come in. I was told at least 30 days maybe much longer. I thought I was buying a reliable car, not the case.

Ride is Fast and Smooth. Controls/Interior is NOT USER FRIENDLY

What a fast and smooth ride, which is why I purchased this car. Turning radius is huge, though, so not very maneuverable. When I first bought it, I thought how nice it was that Hyundai was trying to mimic the gas-powered car experience with the controls in their electric vehicles. But this is my first Hyundai, so little did I know that I would hate the interior controls so much that I'd be begging for the horrible Tesla-like feature where everything is on one screen. How things work inside the car is clunky and not user friendly compared to other manufacturers. To name a few things I don't like, the steering wheel has way too many controls w/very few of them being intuitive. It has a strange scrolling/push button that cycles you through pages of options. I won't scroll through "pages" of options while driving. There should never even be a second "page" let alone the huge number of controls, levers, buttons, etc. The settings I want to change, I can't (e.g., certain unnecessary notifications stay on and interrupt every song and audio book I read) yet settings exist for things I can't imagine being used by a majority of drivers. Placement and choice of what to make the button or control is odd. For ex, the P, N, D, etc is a twisty knob on the end of a lever on the steering wheel but so is the windshield wipers. 4 months in, I'm still twisting the gear shifter sometimes when I need wipers. The seats are fake leather, so I don't slide smoothly in or out of them. Instead, as I'm getting in and out, I'm planted on the seat where I land the first time and then have to raise myself up and move over a time or two just to get in place. The material used on the inside of the doors shows body oil and smudges. Regular cleaners do not take it off. I have found no way to make the inside of the car look clean. Simply for the inside and all its frustrations, if I had to decide right now, I would never buy another Hyundai no matter how good the warranty. It's a frustrating user experience inside this vehicle.
