I love driving this car, but I can't recommend buying it.
I love the exterior, interior, and features of this car. Coming from a 2010 Corolla, the Ioniq 5 has been an absolute pleasure to drive and live with. There is one glaring issue though that prevents me from recommending it to anyone: the ICCU problem. Hyundai has claimed that they have fixed the issue with software updates, however, it is clear that the issue persists. I feel like my car is a potential time bomb until one day, the ICCU fails and I am left without a vehicle. It is irrelevant that the part has a 10 year warranty; no vehicle should be released with a potential issue that could leave you stranded out of town or on the highway. With that being said, if Hyundai actually fixes their ICCU design (a real hardware fix, not just a software patch), I would tell everyone I know to buy this vehicle. Everything else is stellar. The 2025 version is definitely better than the 2024 and older versions. I also wish that Android Auto would connect to either my or my wife's phone depending on who's driving profile was active. It has gotten quite annoying having to manually switch back and forth depending on who last drove. I am leasing the limited 2025 Ioniq 5 RWD and watching to see if Hyundai actually fixes their ICCU problem. If they do, I plan on buying out my car at the end of the lease. If they do not, I will not be leasing or buying another vehicle from Hyundai, Genesis, or Kia.
