Great vehicle with poor software choices
I've had the 2025 Ioniq 5 for several months now and have driven it on trips and daily local driving. It's a great car overall, but has some missteps. I purchased the XRT submodel and have been pleased by the smoother semi-offroad suspension. The interior looks nice and is very functional. The seats look nice, but they aren't all that comfortable and probably need to be worn-in. As our vehicle has the NACS charge port as standard, we've charged at different Superchargers and destination chargers and that experience has been okay for location with longer charge cables to reach the opposite-side charge port. The included home 120V charger is, however, unreliable. It frequently disconnects and reconnects and is noticably wasteful (about 30%) with energy losses during charging. Get a Level 2 home charger to minimize losses. We are disappointed that it was hard to locate an XRT model in the right color, as most dealerships either had 1 XRT or none at all. It seems to be exceptionally limited in availability. The biggest downside to the car is the built-in vehicle software and the poorly-designed mobile app. Remote commands on the mobile app take a LONG time to reach the vehicle, sometimes 2-4 minutes. This is ridiculous. The mobile app doesn't support phone key on any phone not Samsung, Apple, or Google. That's a ridiculously lazy failure. The app buttons an UX are poorly designed. I don't need a separate button to Start and Stop climate controls, nor a separate Lock and Unlock button. These should be 1 button that changes state to indicate current operational status. It is unnecessary clutter and your UX designers should be ashamed. Also, having a popup in the app that comes back 15 seconds after being dismissed *every time* is another ridiculous failure. Lets get into the OS choices for the vehicle. Hyundai seems to have chosen a new OS for the 2025 vehicles and removed some configuration options present in earlier models, like charge port locking behavior. Now I also hear that OS is going to be abandoned in future models. If you're going to change the OS, at least make it appear to have functional continuity. And stop trying to sell me additional subscription items I don't want.
