I found my Maverick as it was just listed online as for sale. I drove to the lot and found the Maverick with a salesman sitting inside talking on this cell phone.
I assumed he was calling his “contacts” to sell it. I called my Salesman “Jim” and confirmed that it was actually available.
I arrived and took the Maverick for a test drive. I agreed to purchase the vehicle for cash.
I explained I needed no financing, had no trade in and needed no insurance.
There was talk that there should have been a $5000 market adjustment added to the price but the internet department jumped the gun only listing it at MSRP. I
I said well I would not be sitting there if that was the case. Not sure if that was just a “smokescreen” to push my purchase.
While entering my current information into the computer I was asked for my SSN and was told this was for identification purposes.
I knew this was a ruse and explained I needed no financing and that my credit was exceptional. Never was I asked to run my credit history.
Shortly thereafter the finance manger came out with my credit history report which was probably falsified at a much lower 744 rather than the 800 plus I always have.
According to the FCRA the business requires a “Permissible purpose”. Which I don’t think applies since I advised up front I needed no financing and the lower score was to sell me financing at an inflated interest rate.
Since this Maverick was being sold as new with the MCO never being sent in although it came out of what I was told was the demo/rental fleet with 4200 miles. I was told these miles would count against my warranty.
I found in their need to make as fast a sale as possible this Maverick had not been serviced.
And I advised that I wanted the vehicle serviced as any other new or used vehicle is on the lot. This was agreed to and appointment was made the following week.
I then had to finish paperwork in the Finance Mangers office. He tried to sell me everything from ceramic coating and maintenance plans to extended warranties. I told him that I was not interested in any of it. He then began to debates the cost of doing my own oil changes!
I told him that it’s not always about money and that I have been a mechanic for over 40 years and that my attention to detail could not be provided in a high volume dealership.
Upon completion the Finance Manager said
“Have a blessed day”. Who is he to bless me? Keep your business secular!
“Jim” bought me a new ball cap at the parts counter for my purchase. I thanked him again as I have bought cars from him since 1991. I told him I’d be back in a week for my scheduled service.
Upon return one week later for my service and spoke with the same service writer. I was asked how was this being paid for? I
I explained that my salesman and I had just spoken with him last week and the arrangements were made at the time of purchase for a new vehicle to be serviced.
“Jim” said that he was just advised since I didn’t purchase their maintenance plan I wouldn’t get a two free oil change.
Or I could pay for it with my Ford Pass points which I hadn’t even received yet!
This is insane as every new or used vehicle on that lot is serviced prior to sale! “Jim” said he agreed would pay for it.
The dealership was miffed because they had not made a huge profit by selling me a bunch of extras!
I’ve now received and spent my Ford Pass connect points.
My salesman deserves 5 stars, but the rest of you not so much.
Just another typical car dealership focused on the almighty dollar trying to squeeze every cent out of buyers!
