Poor gas mileage, payload, and quality
This truck is a POS. I knew it had bad gas mileage and payload when I bought it but I looked the other way on that because I value quality and reliability above all. Now it has an engine timing cover leak at 20k miles but Toyota won’t fix it under warranty because it’s not big enough yet to be dripping. They call it a “normal seep”. So if it’s not dripping on the ground by the end of the year when my warranty is up, I’m SOL.
On top of that, a while back I was doing some 4wd driving on a semi-steep logging road and the truck suddenly alarmed for transmission overheat. The road I was on was not extreme in any way, so this was rather surprising. The Toyota dealer looked at it and told me it was fine and nothing was to be done. I ended up installing a $1200 auxiliary transmission cooler to eliminate that problem. Toyota removed the auxiliary cooler from the Tundra in 2019 for some reason.
If I’m going to have a truck with poor quality and reliability, I may as well buy a Ford or Chevy where at least I get better gas mileage, payload, and towing along with it.
