Mary Anne Mertz,
I am truly sorry that you feel we damaged the radiator on your 2009 Kia Borrego Ex with 228,800 Miles. I am also truly saddened that you feel we could be malicious in this way. Client Satisfaction and trust are of the highest concerns for all of us here at the West Automotive Group if we ever damage a client’s vehicle it would be remedied immediately without cost to the client. And as you can attest and documented yourself, I reached out immediately to speak with you and discuss the concern you had and offered to show you what was going on with the vehicle. You shut me down Immediately and did not want to have a discussion about your vehicle. I am truly sorry as I wanted to help you in this situation. I understand your frustration with the vehicle and the cost of repairs as money is tight for everyone these days, that being said vehicles often fail at the most Inconvenient times. The true turn of events with your vehicle are as follows, you brought your vehicle in to have the starting concern diagnosed and looked at for the vehicle stalled out and would not start, you could jump start the vehicle and it would start but stall out after removing the jumper cables. We diagnosed the vehicle for this concern and verified the Battery had Failed, caused by the alternator failure, we recommended to replace the Battery and alternator and service the Battery Terminals. This is what the vehicle was initially brough in for by you, and we diagnosed it as you had requested, Electrical diagnosis does not include inspecting the entire vehicle. We always check engine oil on every vehicle in for service and repair as we would never want a vehicle to leave our facility low on oil. When doing so the technician verified your oil level was so low it would not show on the dipstick (Meaning your engine was close to being out of oil). Therefore, the technician recommended performing an oil filter service with our 40 Point vehicle Visual Inspection. You Authorized these repairs and service, the Alternator was replaced, Battery replaced and serviced, the oil and filter were changed and the 40 Point inspection was performed. During the 40 Point Inspection, because we visually looked at multiple points on the vehicle, the Fissure crack in the Plastic Radiator tank was noticed. These cracks happen with time and mileage, the plastic restricts and contracts so much with heating and cooling that eventually these cracks form on every plastic radiator and start to leak or seep coolant. You may not see coolant on the ground as High OAT coolant from this type of crack leaks when the vehicle is running and hot, the coolant evaporates leaving mineral deposits but does not always hit the ground, so you were then advised of the leak on the radiator after our Inspection, and we recommended to replace the radiator. You declined the radiator replacement, which is your choice, we documented the concern and advised you as we should about the concerns with the radiator leaking. The radiator on your vehicle was not damaged by my team or any other person, with the mileage and time the plastic cracks on all vehicle radiators made with this design. I truly hope this helps you understand the concerns about your vehicle along with the true fact that we had nothing to do with your radiator failure. If I can be of further assistance, please call me anytime. Brian Bowersock 760-741-0071
I was very surprised as I reviewed the bill that this is a fee that is applied even if they do the repair. Not to mention the $39 ‘service /hazmat fee totaling almost $200 in junk fees.
I inspected the issue I was having prior to taking it to their shop. I was 90% sure what the problem was but didn’t want to preform the work myself. After speaking with someone on the phone and explaining what I thought the problem was, I was told if I got it to them that day they’d have it back to me the next day. This was Thursday. Tuesday they called me saying it was a different problem and it would be $3500 to repair. I told them to please inspect the issue I thought it was. They called back the next day and stated it was indeed the problem I thought it was. This call was around noon and they were done with the repair by 4p.
Almost one week for a couple hour repair and an additional $200 junk fee.
Unfortunately I will continue to look for a honest repair shop.
