DO NOT GO to @rontokin People say dealerships rip you off this place is a whole nother ball game. THESE PEOPLE ARE LIARS. just got a call from my third mechanic after this place who's actually honest, They said they did not agree with any of the assessments that this dealership made and this dealership made $5,000 worth of assessments when my car was worth $10,000. They gave me a bill of fake assessments to push me to trade in my own car so they can have my used Mazda 3 They were trying to scare me to get my used Mazda 3 and scare me into a plan and lie about all of the things in the car

Beware Solo Female Shoppers
I have never been spoken to in the way that the sales Manager Patrick Ramage spoke to me in the lobby of Mazda. I'm still in shock. As a woman car shopping alone, he created such a hostile space. And did not care at all. Zero apology or remorse. In fact his exact words were, "good, leave!" He spoke to me like a an entitled frat guy at a bar, versus a Sales Manager in a *professional* setting.

I had additional questions about the vehicle I had agreed to purchasing and he grew increasingly frustrated about misinformation he had given me.

He first agreed to give me the vehicle for one amount, then apologized for not realizing it was a different vehicle and then rescinded the verbal offer he gave me 10 minutes prior.

He then told me the interest rate I would be receiving, but after doing the math on some things, something didn't make sense. When I asked about this an hour later (because I had been there 5+ hours at this point), he let me know he made a mistake and it was actually higher, but brushed it off as no big deal.

This is a big deal. This makes a big difference, which I explained to him.

To which he aggressively spoke to me and said "I don't want to do this deal anyways!" I was in shock. I said first of all, watch how you're speaking to me - he said "whatever." Again, this is a sales manager, I couldn't believe I was being spoken to this way. I never raised my voice, I never called him out of name.

I literally just began to cry. I was so shocked and hurt. I said I was leaving and his reply while walking away was, "good, leave!"

I spent the next 20 minutes in the Mazda lobby crying waiting for a Lyft. I cannot believe this was allowed to happen on their property by a MANAGER. I can't believe no one in the lobby interfered or even asked if I was ok.

None of this was ok. No one should ever be treated this way. There is not a single man in my life that would EVER speak to me this way.

Bait and switch
I was trying to buy a 17 Mazda 6 with low miles. I talked to the sales manager Zack and he told me that the car was on the lot. I expressed my interest and willingness to put a deposit on it, and he told me that it was against company policy to allow customers to put deposits down on cars. He told me to call him the next morning to talk details. I call him the next morning and he again assures me that the car is there and couldn't be sold because the dealer was closed for the day due to a foot of snow. One hour later one of his salesmen Daniel called telling me that someone had already put a deposit down the night before and the car was sold. Although I didn't lose any money, this dealership seems to be highly unethical and willing to keep a car available until they get the price or customer they prefer.

Ripped me off
Nothing ruins that new car smell like being lied to and misled.

In my personal opinion, I was deliberately lied to at Ron Tonkin Mazda once and misled twice. I have tried to resolve these issues with their customer service staff with zero results. After two weeks the best they can come up with is that there was a misunderstanding.

I had looked in person and online for a few days for a specific car. I had a deal with another dealership pretty much done. I made the mistake of asking Ron Tonkin Mazda if they could beat it which they said they would. I was literally in the other dealership’s parking lot when Ron Tonkin Mazda called me to confirm the details. I drove over an hour out of my way to complete this deal.

It should have been simple. I’m a cash buyer. No trade in, no financing. I write a check, they give me a car. I asked for a price including all of Ron Tonkin Mazda’s fees. I would pay the privilege tax and DMV fees on top of that. Easy, right?

As soon as we walked in the door the deal had changed. I should have left at this point but I stuck around while they figured out how to make the deal work. I reiterated that I was going to pay the price they agreed to plus the privilege tax and fees required by the DMV. They assured me that was accurate and they were working on the paperwork.

Fast forward to the finance managers office and the price is still higher than expected. They add in a “Estimated C.A. Tax” which I question. The response is that is a “tax on electric vehicles, everybody pays it”. That is a lie. Two people heard this lie word for word. I realized after the fact that it is actually the Oregon Corporate Activity tax. The Oregon Department of Revenue confirmed that this is a tax on businesses and nothing to do with electric vehicles. The DMV confirmed that the only tax I should have paid was the privilege tax. Ron Tonkin Mazda chose to add their corporate tax to my total rather than include it in the agreed upon purchase price for the car. Then they lied about it when questioned.

The next issue was regarding DMV fees. I specifically said include all of your fees into the price of the car. I would pay any direct DMV fees on top of that. I was assured that was the case despite there being some very similar costs added to my purchase agreement. Something didn’t feel right but I went ahead and signed, wrote a check, and left with a car.

Once home I realized that they had added in $150 in fees that were NOT payed/required to the Oregon DMV but went to Ron Tonkin Mazda. I feel at a minimum, I was deliberately misled on what these fees were for.

In the end Ron Tonkin Mazda took $251.10 in fees that were not inline with our verbal agreement. My mistake for trusting them and not reading the purchase agreement line by line. Lesson learned.

Congratulations on your $251.10 Ron Tonkin. You just lost two cash paying customers for life. On top of that I’ll be happy to share my experience with anybody that asks me about my vehicle or asks who I would recommend they buy from.

Kudos, you got me!
With all the different dealerships, my only hope is one thinks twice before purchasing from a Ron Tonkin dealership. I’ve purchased many cars over the years and am pretty accustomed to the different games dealerships play, but I have to give kudos to Ron Tonkin for their deceitfulness, that was a first, you got me!
 
We drove over an hour each way, to see a car on their lot on 2/17/2020, this would’ve been our second vehicle purchase from Ron Tonkin. While we were test-driving, they were doing an appraisal on our trade. After our test drive, there was another couple interested in test driving the same car, our salesperson assured us we were ‘first in line.’ Their salesman came running towards us and says I need the keys immediately so my customers can take it on a test drive. He could have asked politely because it’s not like we could or would’ve said no. Again though, we’re first in-line so all is good.
 
After our test drive we had to wait 25 minutes (the whole time the other couple was test driving) before we were seated and presented their first offer on our trade. We had to wait almost 15 minutes for the second offer (which is when the other couple was filling out their credit application at the table next to us).
 
Conveniently, our third offer came 5 minutes after the salesman left with the other couple’s application. Our salesman returns to inform us they can get us what we wanted on our trade, everything looks good, but unfortunately the car just sold. Do you guys want to look at another car?
 
We only negotiated three times on our trade and never negotiated the price on the car we were wanting to purchase, but that took almost an hour to do. Pretty funny since the other couple came, sat next to us, filled out a credit application, negotiated their trade, car payments, and were done in less than 20 minutes. I’m confused why ours took almost an hour?
 
We asked to speak with the Manager. Evan Mcquirk who of course start stating Oregon law, we can’t hold cars (which is not true, I’ve had dealerships hold cars for me). We never asked them to hold the car for us, we were told we were first in line. They say they don’t hold cars, but in my opinion, they were holding the car for the other couple since they didn’t even start our deal until the other couple returned from their test drive. For our troubles, the Manager, Evan Mcquirk did offer to fill our gas tank, our gas tank that was already full. No thanks Evan. We didn’t get the car, wasn’t meant to be, complete waste of three hours.
 
Since then, I’ve spoken with Lisa Nichols, Customer Relations Manager whom has apologized over and over for the way we were treated, but wished she was there that day, so she would’ve known what really happened. Per Lisa, Evan has a different story in regard to what happened. Wednesday, the general sales manager called me, also to apologize about the situation and what he could do to make it better. He offered to find us another Audi since he buys the cars for that lot. Honestly, that was nice of him to offer, but I only get screwed once. I’m unclear why they’re apologizing, since according to them they did nothing wrong. If they were truly ‘sorry,’ they would own up to the poor decision their employees made. As I told Lisa and the general sales manager, I have nothing to gain from my complaint, what happened to us is 100% the truth and I will never buy a car from any Ron Tonkin dealership.
 
You literally negotiated two deals on the same car at the same time, lied to my face saying we were first in line, and went for the better deal! If the dealership had handled the situation correctly, they could’ve sold two cars.

Nice waiting areas with amenities, snacks available---some gratis, some for purchase, not just junkfood. Class act.

My Mazda Experience
I started on the hunt for a new car and ended up at Mazda where I got the car of my dreams. My mother and I went in to start the car buying process. As soon as we entered the dealership we were helped right away by an amazing sales consultant Alex Simotas. He took us to test drive the Mazda 3 Hatchback we were interested in. Alex's passion for cars reflected in his knowledge about the car model. He had all the answers to our questions and accommodated every single request of ours to narrow our options to getting the perfect car. The day of purchasing the car he brought us a rare model for me to look out compared to the ones we test drove. And it ended up being the car of my dreams. The interior was insane and I got to drive off the lot happy with my decision. Alex found me the perfect car and I couldn't be happier. The whole crew was so helpful throughout the whole process. I could not have had a better experience. Overall, top notch customer service. Thanks so much again to the Mazda Ron Tonkin team.

Jeff Thompson is a superstar
12 months ago I bought a 2018 Mazda3 Touring edition hatchback. At the time Jeff was head and shoulders above the other salesmen I'd met at about five other dealerships.

When I got T-boned by a 97 Tahoe last week I knew I'd be going right back to Jeff. He made this whole situation so easy.

He even came in on his day off to ensure I wouldn't have to wait another week to get a car.

I'll continue to recommend Jeff to anyone that will listen.
