Hyundai Kona EV 2025
This is my 3rd Kona EV so I am generally very pleased with Hyundai, most especially the rebates, warranty, leasing program and service.
Exterior and interior quality and driving performance are excellent. I love the iPetal and SmartSense driving assistance. However, there are constant wireless and wired connectivity problems with Android Auto which forces me to use my cell phone directly and interferes with media selection, covered storage areas in front seat panel has been severely reduced to a tiny compartment (very little room to hide supplies and other possessions such as FastTrack, flashlights, emergency packs, etc. "Consider taking a coffee break" seems to prompt on very short distances which is very annoying and the prompt cannot be turned off. I leased a 2020 ad 2023 Kona EV which was smaller and more true to a compact SUV but the 2025 is just too big for a compact SUV.
When using direct media for radio stations such as SiriusXM, the monitor does not display the fully screen with music information - which is the same as the past 2 models that I had hope got changed. When selecting full screen for music, the channel logo and number on the left, a big blank space in the middle for channel again and song on the right which only shows partial information. If I have already selected the channel, I don't need channel selection again and want to see the full song and singer information instead. The 12 volt battery on my 2023 KONA EV failed after 1.5 years (possibly was failing earlier than that since several electrical failures were occurring earlier) and was told that 12 volt batteries only last 2 years now and new batteries are not always installed in new vehicles so I am nervous about being stuck with a failed 12 volt on this new 2025. I would also like to see more driving efficiency data on the dash - much was taken out from the 2020 model. Disappointed that heat pump does not really pull less than past models, i.e. battery charge still reduces 20-25%.
