Kelly Blue Book-Car Dealers-My testimonial

6 months ago when Manni had a guest stay with us during the Christmas season, a gentleman, business man stay us for a few weeks from Egypt. I let him know our limitations in transporting him around the city because we had a severe gas leak, gas leaking puddles. Also we hadn't had the transmission assessed to see if there were leaks since the car was seemingly eating up transmission fluid. Our guest was a Mercedes owner back home and looked over the car he said we need to get the gas leak fixed or the car potentially could explode if there would be a spark. He also assessed that perhaps the tires have never been changed. It needed new tires. We arranged to take the car to Robert at Tower Automotive my family trusted mechanic and Manni paid for the gas leak, & replace fuel pump to be fixed=$658.79. He referred me to Napa Auto Parts to pick up Wolf's Head Transmission Fluid, they were very polite and cordial, I bought a supply of 6 quarts for a total of $25.97. Since we've had the car we've had two oil changes one with our neighbor-the parts-supplies and labor being around $250. The second oil change with Robert @ Tower Automotive was 12/11/24 plus fuel leak assessment $324.85. I have replaced the windshield wipers from O'Reilly's Automotive for around $50 in 2024. Today they need to be replaced again-one of the windshield wipers scratches and doesn't remove debris completely on the windshield. Manpreet ordered new air conditioner nobs about a month after ownership from Amazon. One day around October 2024, I parked off the street close to our home and the automatic window on the drivers side would not roll back up, so I proceeded to call my neighbor a local mechanic that works on different cars in the community drive way, he wouldn't answer so I called my old friend John, he responded, it was an emergency I cannot leave the car with window down in the city. I picked him up in the evening and he had a tool, he checked the fuses and turns out the fuse was bad, we went to Auto Zone on Blackstone and replaced it. It worked thank God. I drove him home. The windows worked until May 2025 I had to get to class no later than 6pm on Wednesday, at about 4:20pm the drivers side window was all the way down and wouldn't roll back up at all, John had previously told me Auto Zone (https://www.autozone.com/locations/ca/fresno). and O'Reilly's (https://www.oreillyauto.com/) do engine assessments for batteries, alternator, etc. I had hoped that with their tool they would check the fuses like John did previously and I was pressed for time. I went into the Auto Zone on Blackstone (https://www.yelp.com/search?cflt=auto&find_loc=N+Blackstone+Ave%2C+Fresno%2C+CA+93726) across from Calliber Collision (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Caliber+Collision/@36.7737215,-119.790013,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x809467217e87a0db:0x9d38c8e6a2ae50a!8m2!3d36.7737215!4d-119.790013!16s%2Fg%2F11jyqpvbq2?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDYxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D). The lady at the front desk of Auto-zone when I described that I needed to check the fuses on the fuse box to make the window roll up she said we don't check fuses sorry, you're going to have to go to a mechanic shop and most likely have to pay about $150.00 to access the problem. I walked out frustrated and said “oh great, I cannot afford that”.

So I drove across the street and parked in the parking zone. A very friendly and nice man approached my car and asked how can I help, you? Here is my review from the experience:

We ended up discussing cars and that “I really wanted a Toyota 4 door pickup, and Manni who bought the car wanted a scoot around car. After Manni purchased the Mercedes from Larry's Automotive, I said they are luxury cars and a pain to fix-very expensive, I don't think I will be another Mercedes owner in the future. Toyota is where I would rather invest”.
He made some calls on my behalf and referred me to a European Mechanic on Blackstone. I drove to Good Guys, next to Walmart on Blackstone and Ashland. They had a few people in line in front of me. When it was my turn I asked the mechanic if he would help me simply manually roll up the window so I could get to class and park it for the night. It was approaching past 5pm-most businesses close at 5 but I couldn't leave the car in this condition someone might try to steal it. While at the shop I called and found that B & A European Automotive and Sport ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/b-and-a-european-motor-sport-fresno-2?osq=European+Auto+Repair&override_cta=Get+pricing) which was still open but closing soon. I said you have a garage where I can park my car safely for the night. How much would it be to fix the window just to roll it up temporarily till it's fixed? He quoted me labor around $280. I called Manni, he said drive it home, I said I can't, we cannot afford this, he pleaded. I would have to use my rent savings to fix the window. I had to make a decision and if I am late for class she docks grades. I said ok Manni I will bring it to their shop and they can lock it up and well figure it out tomorrow. So I drop the car off at the shop with the car keys and walked to the bus stop on Olive, I was getting very late to school, with the two busses, I missed class by waiting. I emailed the teacher and she understood the car issues, which gave me so leeway. The next day, the mechanic quoted me $520.00 he told me the window motor needed to be replaced and he needed to order the part but it could be there the next day. I asked him how much on top of the window repair to check all the fluids, he quoted me another $60.

All the supplies are in the trunk go ahead and use those supplies. He seemed understanding that we were very short on funds and was willing to cut us some slack. I got a ride from a neighbor to pick up my car 2 days later. I paid $580.00.

To think that things couldn't get any worse, the car wouldn't start about 1 month later, perhaps it was a bad battery. I didn't invest in jumper cables and we ended our membership with AAA. Darnit. I asked for a jump from my neighbor mechanic, he jumped me. I got then stranded at 7-11 off Shaw across from Fresno State. When I turned off the car waiting for a classmate that was helping me, he wanted to get donuts at the doughnut shop, the car was dead. It wouldn't even click over. He started asking people in the parking lot if they had jumper cables and could jump us. Then I reached out to a Muslim lady with a hijab and she didn't have jumper cables but offered to send someone over from the Mosque to help us get the car started. We waited in the parking lot for almost 40 min. no one came.

By luck a man in the parking lot after continuing to ask for help had jumper cables and gave me a jump. I was then able to drive Gory to his stop almost on Herndon and I drove to Walmart based on the advise of Manni, go ahead and get jumper cables. I took the risk of stopping at Walmart it wouldn't start again. Luckily it did start after Walmart on Blackstone and Ashland and I drove home. A few days later I reached out to John again, & picked him up the day I was getting food picked up from the Mosque. We parked down off the street from the Mashhad and when it was time to pull forward the car wouldn't start. John called a friend who worked at Auto Zone and said we would be coming to check our battery. We went there the battery was low when checked and actually was totally the wrong battery for the car=a go cart battery. To replace the battery with the the core charge removed and the correct size etc, it would cost $240.00. I requested Manni pay half threw Zelle and he wanted a cheaper battery, and was concerned if it wasn't the battery whatever is draining it would kill a new battery and we would be out more money. Basically the cars running better with the correct battery now. Manni said we'll just sell the car and get a better car in a few months, so he can save up. When he came home from work and he drove past Larry's Auto Sales, there were a whole lot of used cars in the parking lot. He said lets go there and get a different car? I said. You're kidding right? He blamed me for wanting the lemon he bought at Larry's. I replied I was wore down Manni from searching day and night, for him to find a car, using up my savings for a Toyota truck what I really wanted and searched for on our home eventually since all the prospects I sought out through private party he declined. I was exhausted at the amount of time wasted that there was no call or show from people I would answer their ad's to meet at Tower Automotive where Robert let me know he would look over a potential sale option for me for free. The months of being without wheels, taking the bus to do laundry, the sacrifices I made. The scams I dealt with from car private sellers on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and Offer Up online. I was wore out. When we finally went to Larry's I had already made a verbal agreement I would pay full rent, plus monthly shared expenses for the month on the condition, buy a reliable vehicle for us, that month. After seeing the lemons he was thinking about getting, Ford Sedan-sitting on a corner, took it to Robert, all kinds of issues, a VW Jetta that was dead on the car lot, corner of Olive and Blackstone, windows didn't work, and back door locks didn't work. He really wanted that VW Jetta. I was so frustrated with him after I explained that car dealers usually purchase their cars from a auction, mark up the price ¾ times the original sale of the vehicle beyond Kelly Blue Book, (I told Manni to compare prices after assessing off Kelly Blue Book-just because you pay more for a car doesn't mean it's quality according to Consumer rating), (our car Kelly Blue book value is @ time of sale=$1,677.00) to make a sale. The Mercedes was a compromise for me when we were at the dealership because the condition for me was I was able to put a full bicycle in the back, it was tan and cream, which I liked. I wanted something reliable, economical, not crazy in gas and minimal maintenance. When I was home and he surprised me with the car-I had no idea he paid for the car AS IS for around $4,200.00. We didn't receive our tags or actual pink slip from Larry's Automotive, till past 30 days. I was so frustrated and tired from the craziness! After all I have been through with this car-, scams, day and night searches and trying to reach out for a sale in private party=I'm not in the space to go through all this stuff again.

My friend that works a Fresno county job said the the dealerships in Fresno are no good, you're better off looking in Modesto, Stockton, or surrounding areas, Manpreet bought you guys a lemon.

Best garage for smog check
Have been taking my cars to Larry’s for the usual CA smog test for years and they always do a great job. They keep records so it’s easy to schedule and they’re always on time!
