On January 25, 2025 I bought a used 2016 Nissan Altima SR. At first the staff was.friendly and rolled out the red carpet. I hooked my code reader to the vehicle during the test drive and no bad codes were thrown. The car was advertised as having. 90,000 miles. However the odometer read 94,400. So someone at the dealership drove this car 4,400 miles. I let it slide because my thought process that the car should be in good shape with no codes thrown and an additional 4,400 miles. The sales person informed me that the vehicle had passed their inspection. So I decided to purchase the vehicle. Two days after purchase, the vehicle broke down. It had sliw acceleration at a traffic light. I was on RT 54 in Wealey Chapel and could have been involved in an accident as the road is always very busy with traffic. I managed to make it to the Popeyes Chicken restaurant. I was on the fence about towing to Midas or back to the dealer. I called the General Manager Matthew Yee. I had to call several times before I got him on the phone. He told me that since I had just gotten the vehicle he will work out something. Based on that I had the vehicle towed. They kept the vehicle 3 days. The technician, Justin, told me that they had given it a diagnostic test , but everything was functioning normal. He told me they had driven the vehicle and could not reproduce the problem. He then told me that some other guy with a more sophisticated machine, had no findings. The only other suggestion was to send the vehicle to the Nissan Dealership and have them look at it. But ut required manager approval. In the ens, Justin informed me that management did. Ot want to pay for the diagnostic test. Reflecting on how terrified I was with the slow acceleration and dense traffic, I drove the vehicle to Nissan myself. Since they couldn't reproduce the issue, I figured that I could get the vehicle up the road to Nissan. I had my mother to trail me.
After the test with Nissan, they said that all seemed fine but there was indeed something going on that was intermittent. They asked if they could keep the vehicle overnight for further evaluation. I agreed. The next day I was informed that the root of the issue was a bad alternator. The technician told me that they started the vehicle allowing the engine to heat up. He then connected a computerized monitor to the vehicle and began driving it. Upon doing so, he could see the voltage of the alternator charging and then losing charges. The cost to fix was $1,169.49. I called one of the managers at Hyundai, Fabio whose real name is Cristian, and I was hung up on. I called again. When I got him on the phone he told me in a stern voice that he would call me back. To this day I have not heard from him. Now, when I bought this used vehicle I did buy it as is. However, my understanding of as is was that the vehicle had no issues. I moved my mother, my 93 year old grandmother, my daughter, son in law, and grandkids(twins) from St Louis, MO to Wesley Chapel all by myself, to give my family a better life. I had planned on taking my 93 year old grandmother to the Florida Keys. But because I had to pay almost $1200 dollars to get my vehicle fixed, this trip cant happen now. I went without a vehicle for 2 years, being selfless and making a better way for my family. Then when the need arises for me to have a vehicle, I take my hard earned money, pay for a vehicle in cash, at the Hyundai Dealership in Wesley Chapel, and this is how I am done. I am a hard working American just like the rest of you. I grew up in E Saint Louis, IL. Statistically? I should be dead or in prison. But rather, I defied my odds and transformed myself into a software engineer. My friend and I just had a discussion about our professions. There arent many people in my field who are black. Where I grew up, people dont have that kind if money. I didnt rob or steal! I saved and invested. And despite how long it took me to get the amount that I had saved, they treated me like a number. Dont buy your car from Hyundai. They only care about your money
