Erin,
Your first visit which was on 5/27/25 you requested an oil change and asked for a diagnosis for your check engine light being on. You said that visit went well which I appreciate. On that visit we scanned your vehicle and found a misfire code for cylinder 4. The code scan in it’s self is not a diagnosis. The code just gives a Technician a clue as to the area to look for a fault. At that point to give a proper diagnosis the intake manifold had to be removed to inspect the spark plugs which the technician found extremely worn. Without removing the intake there would have been no way to diagnose the issue. You were not called to ask for specific permission to remove intake as you had authorized one hour of diagnostic time at $189.00. On this visit you had no issue with us removing parts which we had to do and you are authorizing when asking for one hour of diagnostics. Also on this visit your ABS and traction control lights were on but at that time did not want a diagnosis for this issue. As you stated in your review this visit went well.
Your most recent visit on 7/7/25 you came in for a New York state inspection and asked me to diagnose your ABS and traction control lights being on. Your vehicle failed state inspection for your parking brake not holding. When conducting a state inspection we must follow NYS law and apply your parking brake to see if it will hold your vehicle under very light acceleration. It did not hold the vehicle at all. That was the only issue for state inspection. At this point the technician when on to diagnosing the ABS/Trac light issue. The Tech scanned and retrieved code U140C implausible right wheel speed signal. Which means the vehicle is not receiving a signal from the right rear ABS sensor. At this point the tech removed ( which is standard procedure for diagnosing this issue ) the right rear wheel and brake rotor as the ABS sensor and tone ring is not visible without removing these items. At this time the technician found the parking brake shoes were not attached to the backing plate. There are small nails that hold the shoes to the backing plate and they were rotted and pulled through allowing the parking brake shoes to move out of there mounting spot. This caused the ABS sensor to dislodge and make contact the and damaging the abs tone ring on the axle. This is also why your parking brake was not holding. The damage on the abs sensor and the tone ring where caused by the vehicle being driven for some time in this condition. At this time we called you with a quote to do the repairs and you became quit upset which I understand, it’s a lot of money. We informed you that vehicle should not be driven like this because it may cause more damage and with nothing to attach the parking brake to it may be difficult to put back together and impossible to put back together correctly. This is where your demeanor changed. I was never allowed to explain as you exploded on me. I made several attempts to explain verbally which you would not allow me to do. I sent an email trying to explain only to receive back negative emails. We did not break anything on your vehicle as it was driven in with the parking brake not working and abs light was on. Upon diagnosing (which you authorized) we found rusted and broken components of the parking brake system. We tried to explain vehicle should not be driven like this and is going to be hard to reassemble for you to drive away without a repair. I take pride in the work and customer service we provide her at Fehlman Brothers Automotive. At no time did I ever say if you don’t stop yelling I would not pass your vehicle. I couldn’t pass your vehicle with an inop parking brake, it had nothing to do with you screaming at me. As you have every right to leave a review, which you have I believe it is very unfair you are having friends of which we have never serviced there vehicles, leaving bad reviews for us. By NYS law we did our job regarding state inspection and diagnosed your ABS issue which you authorized verbally and by signature. I look forward to explaining what happened to both the BBB and NYS DMV.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we’re sorry to hear about your experience.
