After filing a criminal mischief report with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and a comprehensive insurance claim, I took my vehicle to Boerne Automotive and Transmission.
My experience was as follows:
* Initial Agreement: I spoke with Lionel Rodriguez, who quoted a fixed diagnostic fee of $180, with no requirement to sign any paperwork until the insurance adjuster had met with him. This initial lack of a written agreement or signature felt unusual for this type of service.
* Varying Repair Quotes: After the diagnostic was completed, Mr. Rodriguez contacted me and confirmed the emissions leak was in the fuel filler tube. He initially quoted the repair at $380, but quickly revised the quote to $540 during the same conversation.
* Discrepancy in Insurance Estimate: When I spoke with my insurance adjuster, I learned that the shop had provided an estimate for the repairs totaling $2,500. This amount was significantly higher than the quote I had received.
* Final Charge Discrepancy: When my wife went to pick up the vehicle, Mr. Rodriguez stated the diagnostic fee was $193, explaining the additional charge was for "gloves and supplies." When she questioned the fee, he reverted to the originally agreed-upon $180 after I intervened via phone call.
Based on these experiences—the multiple and inconsistent pricing, the significant discrepancy between the verbal quote and the insurance estimate, and the final surprise charge—I chose to seek a second opinion.
The overall experience was concerning, and I would not recommend this establishment.
